Former cruiserweight champion Rich Swann was arrested late last night for domestic battery and false imprisonment. The arrest took place in Gainesville Florida. According to the sworn affidavit, Swann and the victim, Vannarah Riggs, who is also a wrestler and his wife, had just left a show at which the victim performed. Swann was critiquing the victim’s performance that night and an argument ensued. The victim, sensing that the argument might escalate fled the vehicle they were traveling in. According to the affidavit Swann then exited the vehicle and put the victim in a headlock and dragged her back into the car. This all occurred in the middle of traffic on a busy street. The police have testimony from two eye witnesses that corroborate the victim’s account of the incident. According to one witness, after Swann and the victim exited the car, the car continued to roll down the street and hit a telephone poll. Rich Swann, after being advised of his rights to remain silent and consult with an attorney, denied placing his hands on the victim as is alleged in the sworn affidavit.
At this this point these statements are only an allegation and criminal charges are often reduced or dropped. Rich Swann is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
As per their policy WWE has suspended Rich Swann pending the conclusion of these proceedings at which point he will either be released or reinstated in the company.
