Exclusive: Why Rusev was added to the US Championship match

Last night, the WWE added Rusev to the US Championship match at WrestleMania.

The main reason behind this was due to fact that WrestleMania had three Triple Threat matches going into the start of the week, with the US, Intercontinental and SmackDown Tag Team Championships all being defended in Triple Threats, therefore, the US Championship match has now become a Fatal 4 Way.

The WWE had considered Rusev, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin for the spot, but opted for Rusev, based on his current merchandise sales. Rusev now finds himself on the main card as opposed to the Battle Royal. Internally, this is seen as better spot, even though Rusev was the front runner to win the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, due to the fact it pays significantly more. In addition to that, as recently pointed out by The Usos, many of the Superstars don’t consider the pre-show as being on the WrestleMania card.
